A Random Dutchman’s Bust
Context: I came across a Dutch designer’s portfolio where he decided to 3D scan himself and create a ‘clone’. He also uploaded the net1 on his website and challenged people to recreate it. Highschool me thought this was an interesting challenge to take on and did not stop to ponder if they’d be okay with an uncanny head watch them for the rest of eternity. In case you’d like to try, you can still find it here.
Completed: ~2013
Time to complete: ~3 days (guesstimate)
Yamaha MT-01

Yamaha Endangered Animal Dioramas
Context: My first introduction to papercraft at ~10 years of age. They’re all relatively simple compared with those above. While the site was briefly taken discontinued, it seems to be back up as of writing this. See Yamaha Rare Animals of the World.

Footnotes
-
A ‘net’ is just the unwrapped surfaces of a 3D object laid out on a 2D surface (see wikipedia). In this case, several puzzle-like pieces with tabs on them for gluing. ↩ ↩2
